THE USE AND BENEFITS OF OZONE
THERAPY
Written by Cheryl M. Deroin, NMD |
The significance of ozone therapy is its ability to reduce or eliminate bacteria, viruses, fungus, yeast and other foreign substances that can invade the body without harming the terrain of the body. Ozone stimulates the body’s own immune system to release cytokines. Cytokines act as messengers in the body which in turn activate T4 and B lymphocytes to produce specific antibodies and also set off a whole cascade of reactions to awaken the body’s own natural defense systems.
1840 is the year in which Dr. Schonbein of Germany was credited for discovering ozone. Ozone has been used throughout Europe for over 200 years. It is also used medicinally in Canada, Russia, Cuba and Mexico. There are appropriate protocols to use for the administration of ozone so it needs to be administered by a trained practitioner.
Ozone can be administered in many different ways. A major autohemotherapy involves 200 cc of blood being withdrawn from the body into a vacuum-sealed glass bottle using a closed sterile system. The blood is then mixed with precisely measured amounts of ozone and oxygen and re-infused back into the body.
Ozone can also be administered by colon or vaginal insufflation. With colon insufflation, the ozone also enters the hepatic plexus and can be used to treat not only diseases of the colon but also can help to detoxify the liver. Vaginal insufflation is useful to treat reproductive conditions and bladder infections.
Another effective way to use ozone is in the form of a minor autohemotherapy. This involves taking out a small amount blood, ozonating it and injecting it into the muscle. The minor autohemotherapy specifically stimulates the body’s second line of defense that is important in autoimmune diseases and long-time chronic illness. After a period of time when the body needs to fight a long-term illness, the first line of defense becomes weakened. Ozone therapy, especially the minor autohemotherapy has the ability to reactivate the second line of defense, especially the natural killer cells.
Ozone can also be infused into olive oil for topical application of fungal, yeast and bacterial infections. Small doses can be used in the ear for the elimination of ear infections and chronic candidiasis. Ozone can also be used to treat non-healing wounds and skin infections by bagging the area and infusing it with the gas. Inflammatory joint disease can also be treated with ozone. Small amounts can be injected directly into the joints in the case of infections, arthritis and other causes of inflammation.
Water can also be ozonated for drinking which is helpful with mouth and tooth infections. Ozone use had its beginnings in the practice of dentistry and can be used to disinfect the mouth and gums. Also it can be injected into the gums to release cytokines and improve the strength and resilience of the gum tissue to ward off infection.
Ozone is one of the most important gases in the stratosphere. Its pronounced absorption capacity of UV wavelengths makes it an effective filter and acts as a protective shield against high-energy ultraviolet irradiation from the sun. This in turn helps to maintain the biological balance in the biosphere. Under the action of ultraviolet light on various elements contained in smog, particularly nitrogen oxides, ozone is formed in the presence of oxygen which is easy to analyze. The ozone concentration is consequently used as an indicator for pollution, a practice that has given it a bad name because many people now wrongly imagine that ozone is the cause of pollution and not just one of its by-products.
Ozone therapy can be used preventatively to build the immune system or to treat a variety of infections, including Hepatitis A, B, and C, Lyme’s disease, Epstein-Barr virus, Cytomegalovirus, Herpes simplex and Zoster viruses, candidiasis, and fungal and bacterial infections. It is also a beneficial treatment for circulatory disorders, heart disease, cancer, chronic fatigue and autoimmune conditions.
