Motor Vehicle Accidents - Early Treatment is Key to complete recovery
Written by David Tallman, DC, NMD
Have you ever been involved in an auto accident?  Many auto accidents cause an acceleration/deceleration injury [whiplash] that can lead to chronic neck problems.  Even low-impact crashes can injure ligaments and tendons that attach from bone to bone in the spine and base of the skull.  These injuries lead to myospasms, chronic discomfort and eventually bone spurs in the spine.  It is important to have a thorough orthopedic exam if you have ever been involved in an auto accident and have recurring neck symptoms.  Most patients have significant relief after utilizing a comprehensive naturopathic orthopedic program.

Headaches, neck pain, trigger points and decreased range of motion commonly occur months to years following an auto accident.  Trauma to the ligaments results in straightening of the spine which can be seen on x-ray.  X-rays may also show bone spurs and loss of disc height.  Symptoms and radiographic findings usually progress over the years.

"Conventional" medical treatments fail to treat the cause of neck dysfunction and tension headaches.  Many are not aware of the serious dangers of cortisone-type injections that cause osteoporosis and weakening of structural tissue and medications that cause heart attacks, strokes and ulcers.  A thorough orthopedic examination of the muscles, tendons, ligaments and curvature of the spine can usually pinpoint the cause of chronic neck symptoms.  After naturopathic medical treatments have strengthened the injured areas, a personalized rehabilitation program should be implemented to restore the natural curve of the spine and prevent further degeneration and wrosening of symptoms.

You can schedule a 15-minute consultation to discuss how your chronic injuries can be resolved.
